 MATERIALS

My creations are all made with either 14k solid gold, 14k gold fill, sterling silver, oxidized silver, and black rhodium.

14k solid gold is actually 56.8% pure gold mixed with alloy metals that strengthen the metal itself since gold is relatively soft.  It’s quality supersedes that of gold fill and vermeil/gold plated but with the gold market rapidly inflating, it becomes the high end option for my creations.  You can inquire about custom creations using 14k gold.

Gold fill is the metal material I prefer to use the most.  14k gold fill is a 5% solid 14k gold layer that has been pressure bonded onto a base metal: brass or copper.  It acts and looks like solid gold while being the fraction of the price.  It’s hypo-allergenic to most skin types and doesn’t turn black and rub off onto the skin.  It resists tarnishing, retains its rich gold color, and can withstand persistent wear.

Sterling Silver is a hypo-allergenic metal that I enjoy using for certain pieces.  Sterling silver will tarnish naturally, but some minimal upkeep will keep your pieces shining. To maintain the bright luster of sterling silver, you can clean the metal with a using toothpaste and a toothbrush, followed with a rag polish.  Most creations that are made with 14k gold fill can be made in sterling silver upon request.  Please inquire through the Custom Designs tab.

Oxidized Silver is sterling silver that has been blackened, usually using sulphur to create this blackened or patina look.  It’s great to give contrast to the light color of silver and since it’s already blackened or oxidized, it won’t tarnish any further.

Black Rhodium is sterling silver plated with ink dyed rhodium.  Rhodium is a precious metal that doesn’t tarnish easily. I love using this material to bring out different tones in pearls.

The pieces look dainty, are they fragile?

The materials I use for my creations are from natural and organic sources, gemstones and shells in particular.  They are fragile and need to be cared for.  Dropping them on a hard ground, stepping or sitting on them, for instance, could break the pendant and the rest of the piece.  Some of the chains I use are dainty and fragile as well.  I'm a pretty rugged person, and I think having created this style of jewelry has reminded me to be more gentle with myself.  Do handle the pieces with care!

What if my piece breaks?

I  stand behind my creations but understand that from time to time, things can break from normal wear and tear. I am more than happy to fix the piece for free within 6 months of wearing it at only the cost of shipping. After 6 months, I will assess the damage to the piece and calculate the cost of the repair ( $10 - $50 + shipping) depending on materials and time.  I will give you a quote upon receiving the item.  Some pieces are one of a kind and cannot be replaced.
