Ancient Helios Hemidrachm Pendant Rhodes 300 to 150 BC

Authentic Greek silver set in solid 18k gold

Struck on the island of Rhodes between 300 and 150 BC, this ancient silver hemidrachm features the radiant head of Helios, the Greek Sun god and divine guardian of the island. His portrait is shown facing slightly right, framed by flowing sun rays that symbolize brilliance, vitality, and the protective power of the sun itself. Helios was the patron deity of Rhodes, and his image appeared on nearly all Rhodian coinage for centuries.

The reverse displays the island’s signature emblem, a blooming rose with a bud to the right, accompanied by a quiver to the left. This rose motif is more than decorative. It reflects a play on words in ancient Greek, since the name Rhodes resembles rhodon, the Greek word for rose. These coins circulated widely across the Mediterranean and were used in trade, travel, and diplomacy throughout the Hellenistic world.

More than two thousand years later, this coin retains its remarkable artistry and historical resonance, now preserved in a handcrafted 18k gold bezel so it can be worn and treasured for generations.
